Call for Editors for Apples – Journal of Applied Language Studies for 2025-2030

The Language Campus is looking for editors for Apples - Journal of Applied Language Studies for the five-year period 2025-2030 (as of August 1, 2025). The journal has been published regularly since 2009. In recent years, 3-4 yearly issues have been published.

Apples is an international open access journal for applied language studies housed by the Language Campus of JYU (see http://apples.jyu.fi), classified as level 1 publication in the Finnish Publication Forum (JuFo), and it carries since 2015 the peer review emblem of the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies (www.tsv.fi). Apples is dedicated to promoting scholarship addressing questions of social in/equity and in/justice, exclusion/inclusion, societal challenges and developments, and language rights. The working language and primary language of publication is English, but articles will also be published in other languages.

We are now looking for new editorial team members: 1–3 chief editors and 6-10 special area editors. The chief editor(s) will be responsible for coordinating the journal and its publication activities; the special area editors will be responsible for processing of the accepted articles. Chief editors can submit applications both individually and jointly.

We are looking for special area editors in all areas of applied linguistics, including but not limited to multilingual and multicultural education, language assessment, language (education) policy, and multiliteracies, as well as for the book review and discussion note sections. The new editorial team may further specify the thematic areas. All tasks require good English language proficiency and good knowledge of the field of applied language studies. Other language proficiency is regarded as an advantage.

There will be no separate salary or payment for the editorial work; the tasks will be included into the working plan (Language Campus recruits).
